Atlantic Contracting and Material Co., Inc. is a fourth generation general contractor serving the Washington Metropolitan Area, specializing in heavy and highway construction. We are proud to have been part of the development of many of the region's most notable public and privately owned construction projects.

Starting out as R.T. Madden Company we have deep roots in road buildings in the early 1900's and began building gravel roads in Wisconsin. We paved city streets, curbs, gutters, and progressed to highway paving. R. T.'s son, John, joined the business in the 1950's and became president in 1963. He expanded the business to include aggregate crushing and recycling, materials, and demolition. Over the years, R. T. Madden won several paving awards and was a contributor to West Virginia's road building initiative in the 1970's. 
John relocated in 1984 and renamed the company Atlantic Contracting and Material Co., Inc. and have worked on many key federal and regional government projects in the area. John’s son Tom, joined the business in 1984 then becoming president in 2003 and then John's son Mike joined the company in 1992, along with John’s grandson Matt in 2011. Atlantic Contracting and Material Co. expanded by including excavating, grading and underground utilities.
